Nice mid week long run with Frank. I was thinking of going a little farther than 11 today and I wanted to run with Frank and he was already planning to do 13 so it worked out perfectly. I wanted to do a bit more because I'm going skiing at the end of this week, so I'm not too sure I'll be able to fit in a long run.

We were planning to run in the morning before work, meeting at Kingston at the start of the tow path at 6:25. I set my alarm for 5:55 which is the earliest I have woken up for a training run! Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. It was a nice temp of mid 40s but it just started raining at the beginning of our run. Luckily it was pretty light and then stopped all together so it wasn't much of a factor. I got to use my head lamp for the first time and it worked out great for the first 20 minutes or so when it was still pretty dark on the path.

Everything was going fine and the pace was perfect. Started out in the 8:40s in got a bit quicker to the low 8s by the end. But then with a few miles left, I started to feel like I made a bad choice this morning. I was contemplating not eating anything when I woke up, but I felt so hungry I figured I'd have a Lara bar. I love these things because they are only 2 or 3 ingredients. Unfortunately one of these was the wrong ingredient. I'm thinking it was the dates. I really had to go to the bathroom bad and it wasn't something I could quickly do. I was really hurting and couldn't wait to be done which was a shame because other than that the run was going great. I luckily made it and got back home quick. A trip to the bathroom and a shower later and I'm good as new. My take away from this experience was no lara bars for my ultra and running when you have to poop sucks.

Nice job you two! This was a big run to start your day. I hear what you are saying 'nature calling', it happens. Way to brave the rain, it was a downpour when I was looking to step out, so I bailed and went cross-training on my indoor bike. Stat question...How was your max HR 178, yet your max HR on any of the 'laps' peaked at 169?

Wow, great distance for a mid-week jaunt! Just sorry you were uncomfortable for part of it - the first time I planned a 10+ run in DC, I had to cut it short and find a random outhouse near the Jefferson Memorial, I was in so much pain. Having to drop a deuce mid-run just plain sucks.

Nice running with you Dimitri. I'm so glad our schedules worked out so we could do this run together. It's such a benefit to run with someone instead of pounding out miles and miles alone, especially in the rain. Thank you!
