Had a difficult race d/t GI issues and then glycogen depletion at 19. Legs 100% rested at start. Pace felt good and smooth. Decided to get a drink at 9 miles and accidentally grabbed their lemon-lime Nuun drink. As soon as I swallowed it my stomach started churning. I have no idea what in it hit me so hard but I immediately wondered if I was going to have to drop out. By 10 my stomach had settled but I decided I wasn't eating or drinking anything but water the rest of the race. Went through 19 with the 3:10 pace group but started feeling the battery draining, so I eased off a bit. Tom got me a drink of gatorade at 20 and I immediately felt some energy come back. I walked to drink it and that was why i had an 805 mile at 21. I walked and drank some more at 22 and decided all I needed to do was keep running to the finish line. Only the last mile was difficult and I didn't push hard because I was so far ahead of my BQ time. Rain/45 degrees and no glycogen to keep body temp up, had my body temp dropping fast after the finish. After I got warmed up in the car I felt really good. Only sciatic pain (or whatever) down left gluteal muscle made the ride home difficult. I had GI issues all the way home but wasn't tired. Tom and I talked the entire way back which took us 8 hours d/t frequent stops and interstate accidents. Didn't go to bed till 10:15 and woke up on Sunday feeling really good. Since I didn't push myself, I think I'll have only a short rest period before returning to solid training. This marathon was streak day 108. I must learn how to take in nutrition during a marathon to get past "the wall". I also need to drop another 6 lbs and guard against anything that is going to destroy my GI system.
