Got up at 4:45 am to get my run in before going out deep sea fishing with Uncle John. Ran an easy three on same course as yesterday then picked him up at 6:00am. We had breakfast then went to the dock to catch the boat. We left at 7:30 sharp and immediately began bouncing up and down. I guess were heading into a swell (that's what they said) which made for some tough boating. Originally we were outside, but the spray began to soak us each time the front of the boat slammed back into the ocean. I've never been sea sick but it began to set in after only about 15 minutes into the trip. This was an 8 hour trip and the hopelessness of the situation set in immediately. Once I layed down it helped a little. I made it 2 hours, before I began throwing up. Shortly after we reached our first deep sea fishing site. I made it to the side and baited my hooks. between the 3rd and 4th vommitting episode, I caught a large fish (forgot what kind), but there was no joy or fun in it. The boat continuously rocked back and forth and you had to steady yourself to bait you hooks, walk or even reel in you catch. I retreated back into the cabin and laid back down. The nausea never fully subsided and I simply suffered for the remaining 6 hours. Uncle John puked once, and at leat 2 others never left the cabin the entire trip. I was disappointed but this is good to know. I will rethink my 42 hour trip across the roughest water in the world between South America and Antartica planned for March 2010. This is only the second time in my life I have know that helpless feeling, the other being the bitter cold in the Infantry back in 1988, and the knowledge that there was not chance of warming for several days. That which does not kill.........
