Had a great race and ran exactly what I wanted. I planned to run 6:30 a mile av. with an even effort. This pace had me with Tom through 8 then I had to let him go to stay with my plan. The wind was a bigger factor than the hills and Grindstone into the wind was tough, but Tom and I took turns drafting and that helped dramatically. We chased Ceasar Mello for miles and I was within 10 seconds as we hit the trails spur. Tom was 5 seconds ahead of me. Tom and Ceasar picked it up and fought it out with Ceasar getting him at the end for 4th. Tom was 5th in 1:22:35 and I was 6th in 1:23:05. I passed two guys in the last mile and finished strong.
626, 627, 612, 644 (campusview hill), 633, 638, 623, 613, 624, 630, 648 (arena hill), 630, 606, ?. The course was short but I averaged 6:28 per my Garmin or a 1:24:43. I hoped to break 1:25 and figure I just would have if the course was accurate.
Melanie kicked ass and ran a 1:37 for 58th overall and 10th women. She was quite happy and this is the confidence she needed for Chicago next week. I was so proud of her even though I didn't think it was smart to run hard 7 days out from a marathon. Hard headed my wife, but fast!
