Training plan called for 50 min easy run plus 6 x 100m hill Hill Sprints - walk or jog down hill. Up until now, all of my "Hill Sprint" runs have been on the treadmill - using the random function to produce hills, but not doing any sprinting. Today, I had a nice, easy run of close to 5 miles and then 6 torturous sprints up the hill on Bright Meadow Drive near my house (OK...the first two sprints were fine - the last four were torture!). I see the benefit of not doing just hills (for strength) but for doing hill sprints (for strength and speed), but I'm also kind of glad I haven't done this workout often. Ick!

One other issue - about 3.5mi in I had some acid reflux. With the amount of heart disease in my family and the fact that I had high cholesterol throughout my 20's - any pain in the chest worries me. But I also know that my cholesterol is now under control (for about 6 years now), and I have been running for the past 8 years or so - so I shouldn't have any heart disease issues at this age. Oh, and my food intake yesterday included two mugs of coffee (16-20oz each), a 20oz Diet Pepsi, French Fries at Elevation Burger (even though they are cooked in Olive Oil which is "heart healthy", they are still deep fried), and a few pieces of chocolate. Yeah - definitely acid reflux!
