Notes
This run morphed itself into a progressive with a cool down. I've been fighting a head cold for the past four days or so, ended up missing yesterday just to rest up so the legs were feeling really fresh. On the mall I was working in the 4x15 strides and just noticed my pace was increasing so I thought why not bust through the blah and make this interesting. I went a little over on mileage because I wanted to keep all the middle miles on the gravel lap I use around a section of the National Mall to make the effort even through the faster miles. I was amazed how fast the last one was and I didn't feel like I pushed much harder than any other mile before. Cooler weather seems to be helping and cutting back the volume may be a factor too.
The goal after JFK is still to attempt a BQ at the Shamrock Marathon in March, eventhough it might be a stretch, I still want to try. So although I'm totally focused on the 50 miler the speed aspect is in the back of my mind.
