Notes

After last weekend I wanted to jump right back on the horse and tackle another difficult hilly trail run. I looked at the topographic map of the area and one of the hilliest sections without driving out too far was at Balls Bluff Battlefield. I did the first two miles on very technical wooded single track trails. The trail popped out onto a small gravel road which turned out to be great. It led all the way down to the river and led all the way back to the main park entrance. It had lots of steep climbs and descents and parts where rough which was great practice for running downhill and power hiking up. I gained a lot of trail running confidence today. I'm thinking about heading out there about once a week on one of my easy run days. It would be hard to do a long run out there and probably overkill since only the first 13 miles or so of JFK are hilly and technical.
