Notes

I threw in the towel at mile 27. I'm still thinking a lot about this one. I knew the temperature was going to be a factor and originally I was going to start at 4:00 am but the trail was too cluttered with debris to attempt running in the dark with a headlamp so I waited until about 5:15 when it wasn't so dark. This backed me up a bit into the warmer part of the day but really it didn't get too hot. When I started it was 68 degrees and it was only 81 when I stopped. Warm but not as bad as predicted. My problem was not my legs, I just let myself get dehydrated and couldn't will myself to continue. Not sure how this happened. I took in about 3 liters of water with Nuun, but I dropped way too much weight on this one so I guess I needed more. I was happy with the amount of food I took in, I had about 6 Cliff Shots and two Honey Stinger waffles. Not sure I'm going to do the waffles again. They worked ok just a lot more fat than carbs.

Physically this has been a tough week. I had an unexpected trip to the dentist to get my wisdom teeth out on Tuesday and I've been fighting a cold. Mentally I was just beat up... more pain than I normally have to deal with. Although I was happy and pleasantly surprised with the way this run was progressing. I was very conservative on pace and was picking it up slightly towards the end. My legs felt really good but then it hit me and I couldn't push through... or didn't anyway. Normally I can push through and I don't give up easily typically. But its been about fours hours since I've finished and I still feel woozy so I probably should have stopped. Next long run when it is this warm I'll make sure I push more fluids. Also I probably could have fueled better this week. It was tough to eat with the sore mouth. Anyway hopefully my next one will end on a more positive note.
