Notes

First off this was a very hot day, almost 90 at the finish. And first hot day of the year. But, I knew that going in. So what worked and what didn't?

Worked well: went out pretty hard but not too hard. In the past I have taken this race out way too slow but as I gain a little confidence I'm better about pushing a little early. Could say that this lead to the eventual blow up going up Apple Orchard Falls. But I don't think that was it. I was steady through this race through that point and I wasn't digging too deep. It was the heat and maybe not getting enough food before heading back up. By the time I got to the top I was very hungry and stuffed my face with the best food I could find there, cheese puffs and soda. Got my head back at this point but legs could not climb at all. Quads were hurting pretty bad.

Good news no chaffing due to a lot of trail toes applied before. Used Patagonia shorts from 2014 PL and last year's Terrapin shirt. Gear was all fine except the Lone Peak 3s suck for me on technical, move around and try to twist my ankles. Big toes still get the crap beat out of them too on the down hills. Time to try another shoe.

Overall happy with the first part of this race and I feel ok a few days after. Quads still a little sore but that's it. Recovering pretty well.
