Notes

Pretty disappointing showing today. People wonder why our program struggles the way it does - well, when you only have 7 of your 18 kids show up on your optional (but really not optional) practice, I think that frames it a little better. That being said, I am really happy with what I saw from those that did show up. Payton/Justice ran together. I ran with Daniel. Coach Wright ran with Emma. Cora/Claire/Eliza ran together. I think Daniel had one of his better workouts today. Very consistent, we cut it down over the course of the workout and he did a good job hanging on to me at the end of the workout - I really hope to see more of that from him during his races. On our last one, I could see that Justice was struggling hanging on in front of us so as soon as we finished our 1200 I put in a quick burst to catch him and try to right the ship. I ran about a 73-74 second lap to close so I was happy I could make that gear shift (from 90 second laps) without really having to think or work.

Emma ran 7:15-7:20 pace with Coach Wright for her 1200s, which is a significant step up from her race pace, but I also think it is a better indicator of where she actually is (based on her work this summer and her progression from track). I just wish Melina and Fiona had shown up to run it with her.

I was very impressed with our 6-7-8 girls. Their workout was modified a bit to 800s instead of 1200s, but they did four and Eliza was leading them home on the last one in 3:30 (their race pace has been 8:20-9:00 pace). I think they all know they have more to give and I believe Eliza is going to start seeing rapid improvement as she gains more confidence and familiarity with running.

200s felt pretty good. The first two I just eased into them and stayed relaxed. I pushed a little more on the third and fourth so I could show Payton that this ol' dawg still has some wheels.

Overall, happy to see the people that did show up focused and working hard. Everyone else, I am disappointed in. We are better than this.
