Notes

Goal for today was 16 with 12 steady (trying not to think about what steady means and just run). Put on the vaporflies because it was nice out and just figured I needed to break them in sooner rather than later. Didn't check my watch until I hit 5k and kicked myself a little bit because of the pace, but just tried relaxing and not thinking about it. I hit the stone creek area and it was pretty windy and I just focused on staying relaxed and not pushing it and ended up maintaining the same pace. Around 10K, I started thinking about a post I had recently seen about knowing when to hold your cards and when to fold - with that in mind I was thinking just do 10 and call it. At 8.5, my calf started acting up and I should have just called it, but was thinking, how are you going to deal with tightness and what not in races - just get to 10. Should've just folded. Ended up getting to 10, but had to walk for a couple minutes before limp jogging home.

This run is an encapsulation of my biggest marathon anxieties. Running this pace was a total breeze aerobically, but it always becomes what part of my body is going to sabotage me this time - my stomach, legs, etc. As I was telling Adam yesterday, it's not a matter of being able to do it, I know I can - it's doing it on the right day at the right time.

Also, I gotta think that the vaporflies contributed to the calf nonsense today. Stride pattern is totally different with them on, so while I feel like they are pulling me forward, each footfall just feels off and maybe that's just a result of not breaking them in. I'll probably just stick to trainers for the next few big runs.
