Notes

Grueling long run after running a 1:35 half yesterday. Joined for the last 8 by Shawn who made it bearable.

Decided against slogging out 20. Could have but not necessary. Could I have gone another 8? Probably not today. Probably not at the pace I was running at the end. Like two weeks ago, I ran track thursday so had 3 hard days in 4. Just being on vacation will take more out of me than that.

This long double weekend went better than last. Backing off 5 minutes on the half gave me twice that back on the 18 miler. The soreness I started with two weeks was much less evident and didn't turn into sketchy feelings towards the end. Still concerned about the half pace. Perhaps I need to back it off another 2 minutes. I think every minute I give up in the half may be worth two in the marathon.

Need to focus on getting down to goal pace sooner and sticking to it and not running much under it.

Two weeks ago:

1:29:36

2:20:17

3:49:53 for 31.1 miles (7:24 pace)

This week:

1:35:25 - 5:49 SLOWER

2:13:42 - 6:35 FASTER

3:49:07 - for 31.1 miles (7:23 pace)

Nice!! I think the 1:35-7 is the way to go, with little taper and race mode for full be much better.

Agreed. It looks like you're on the right track. And I like your route better than the 5 times around the lake that I would do to get 18. :)
