Hella windy on the streets of Midtown CLE. If there's ever a day to cherry-pick, today was it. Most of the better runners in Columbus for tomorrow's marathon. Had planned on the 10k but dropped down after seeing the winds. Course was into headwind for for first 1.5 mi heading downtown on Prospect before turning on Huron and back on Euclid. Generally downwind return.
Easy to see the wind-aided third mile in the splits: 5:55, 5:59, 5:34, 0:31
Had no help with drafting as I took lead after 0.3 mi. Second place guy finally came up on my shoulder at about 2.5 mi. He forced me to kick hard and ended with a rare (for me) negative-split at this distance. I think I got him by 3-4 seconds or so, but not sure. In the final half-mile, I felt the interval workouts of recent weeks helping.
Not great conditions to race. A marathon today would be hard.
