Notes
This race was a step in the right direction for me. I was entered with a NT since I haven’t run a 5k all outdoor, so I started in 32nd position in the second row. After working my way out of the pack in the first 100 meters I took the lead until I was passed with a lap to go. I felt good through the first mile and went through right at 4:40, but started working a little too hard to hit pace after that. Hit some 71s for a while and felt in control. With about a k to go started feeling pretty tired. Tom Altier from Luther sat right on my tail and I knew I would need to be ready to move the last lap. I could tell Tom was ready to go with 800 left because he was clipping at my heels, so I chilled a little bit...no need to press yet. He flew by me with a very aggressive move with 400 to go. I had saved a little bit so I was ready to go, but I won’t lie, there were definitely some doubts in my head at this point. I responded to the move and went by him with 150 left. I ended up burying him pretty well the last 100, which felt good. I was pretty tired afterwards, but I’m confident I can qualify next week when I don’t have to do all of the work.
On another note, I might try not taking baking soda next race because I think it might be the reason my stomach has been killing me post race lately.
