Fast Finish Tempo Run [7:39 pace p mi adj for heat]

77 deg / 52% H [57 DP]. CLT Runners Tue nite run - Booty Loop (25 runners). Missed the group entirely as apparently I got there too late. Started out and felt really terrible to start -- no spring in step, felt completely flat and it was a monumental struggle (and with the wind in my face over the first 1.5 miles I felt worse). Every climb up a hill felt "worser" as if I weighed 300 lbs. So after about a mile tried to just "will myself" into a rhythm which seemed to be very slow for tempo but depressingly a struggle. Felt like there was a "governor" holding me back. When I climbed up Queens and swung onto Selwyn again I had no ability to go into a faster gear and settled back into that same rhythm as prior. About a mile later when I ascended up the hill on Queens it was a huge struggle again, felt my pace slow, and slow and slow -- after this it just became a struggle, no second wind. Can feel this in my legs and glutes. The only thing I salvaged here to go the final 1.5 miles faster as I had some other runners in front of me that I was able to run up and past, and then over the final 1/4 mile had some guy who was running 400m or 600m who I saw standing but then heard heavy breathing behind me and he gave me motivation to run the final 200m hard and finish strong (ahead of him!).
