Easy Run

58 degrees. CLT Runners Wed nite run (9 runners). Woke up this morning and noticed pain in my left Achilles in same place where I have had similar strains (recent was ~3 months ago) which means a small strain but this can become a huge problem. Iced extensively and triple-taped Achilles. Goal was to run this easy, and be "extra" easy up the hills by purposely shortening stride up any hill to minimize stress on Achilles. Started out easy and in a pack with five other runners (all were going run at least 6!). Pace felt like 8:30 pace. At mile 1 and prior to the 120' climb up McDonald I was in the back and about 20 yards behind the 2 guys leading, but within 1/2 mile I was caught up and we were all running together again. Purposely ran mile 3 slower (letting everyone get back ahead) and saw 7:48 and slowed a little more. Got to hill #2 up Kenilworth and purposely shortened stride up hill as everyone else bolted ahead, and then after I crested and started towards East, all five scampered to the left as they were done (so much for running 6+)! So throttled pace down to something very comfortable and kept cadence quick. Noticed that I was running "easier" for the first time since having to take the first two weeks of March off due to injury which is a good sign. Finished and the pain area in my Achilles had reduced significantly which is another good sign.
