Easy Run

29 degrees. Concerned about ice/snow, impassable roads and cold but this was almost a non-issue. Took gloves off after 3 miles. Wore thickest socks and the Blade Max's which are very stiff and I usually feel slow in. Started down Sharon and there was a guy on the other side of the road so we both ran at about the same pace and this felt easy (8:15 pace). First time I've run "near" someone in a long time due to injury. Legs felt good and could feel some pain (2-3 on a 10 pt scale) in left quad more so on any decline. Had to ran across to his side after I got on Quail Hollow and eventually passed him at 2 miles. At this point, I was into the very rolling and steep parts of Quail Hollow and w/nobody around to pace, and when I got to the real steep part of Quail Hollow before Carmel I felt like the wind came out of my sails. After turning around, running up the 1/2 hill on Quail Hollow after the shopping center felt like it took a toll -- and when I got up to Sharon and watch beeped for mile 5 I did look and saw 8:25 and this felt as slow as I went. Tried to quicken cadence and shorten stride at this point and things began to feel better. Over the last two miles as it got dark I could really feel the temp drop compared to when I started.
