79 deg /79% H /72 dew pt

First attempted "long run" or any run > 60 min. It felt absolutely oppressive out and even though the temperature was around 80 (72 dew pt marks the most oppressive day to run so far). Decided against running along McMullen since that would be a tropical rain forrest. Lifted, fast walked & drills prior. Felt tired & was sweating like crazy just fr the drills. Started at Torringdon and consigned to run this super easy focusing on form, quick cadence & using my butt to lessen the right quad strain. This was a hilly course w/some big rollers. Ran up to end of Endhaven, left on Elm all the way to Robinson's Farm/Rea, then swung around on Elm about 1/2 mile out & turned around, left on Ballantyne Commons up & down to North Community House and then back. I felt like I wanted to stop after 5 min, and then just tried to run at a super slow pace with goal of finishing w/out stopping. Noticed that this felt "easier" (no monumental struggle), did not have an episode where my energy completely sapped, feet hurt around 5 miles in & felt under control. At mile 7 decided to run some "surges" (one telephone pole for the first two and then lengthened the last two) -- felt much better than expected -- I thought I would feel these into my core & possibly cut back but didn't, #1 felt the slowest, #3 and #4 felt much better as form felt better.

Right quad strain followed same scenario -- really hurt 5 min after, I rolled it, was "aching" for the next 60 min, and then subsided (but trigger pt is there when I roll it).
