Notes
Camped out with Newbold and Princic the night before in Gorham. Fun times there! Ate a Oatmeal Raisin Cliff Bar at 6:30 AM and drank a half bottle of water. Got to the race by 7:30 to get a good parking spot and get our gear up to the top in Cathy Pierce's husbands car. I took a half of huckleberry goo 15 mins before the race too. The plan was go really slow to start and then back off a bit through halfway. I wanted to feel really really under control cardio wise right through half way and then start to go from there. I knew it was going to catch up to me so just keep running and no walking. I was right with Paul Hammond and Eric Narcisi and we worked together pretty well through half way. They both grabbed some water at the stop and I just kept going. That is when I pulled away from them. I think I took one quick sip of water at about 3 miles and that was it. It was 58 on the base and by the top it was 41 and windy! I felt ok right until about 4 miles. Then the wind hit and it got tough. I drafted from person to person and did not get passed by a single person after 2 miles in. I was really making ground up from the cow pasture on. The last .6 is NOT BAD, so go at it right after the cow pasture. I was really pumped about the outcome of this race. We were in the clouds and wind at the end and I couldn't see the "wall" until I was basically on it! Good work overall. I did not walk once.
