Leg B-10: Sand Lake Run

In Short: Predominantly downhill leg on the North Country Trail. The trail is hard to follow - watch for the for the blue markers on the trees.

Scenery: 8

Difficulty: 6

Leg B-10: 8 miles

Kicked off Day 2 with my longest leg of the weekend. This back-to-back with the 6 miler last night was pretty challenging for me with where my fitness is at. Legs were already pretty sore when I woke up this morning. Thankfully had a very late start so I was able to sleep in some and take some time to loosen up. Goal here was to just be smooth and make it through this without getting lost. Had a nice rhythm early on. Thought the trail was very clear and was in great shape, so just did my best to have positive thoughts and not think about how long I had to go. About 2/3rds of the way through the leg, I came to a lake which had the most directions, so wanted to be cautious and slowed down. Also, felt pretty good on this down hill and got some scrapes and covered in dirt. Managed to navigate this pretty easily, but lost a lot of momentum between the fall and slowing down.

From here, just grinded my way into the finish, at this point I was absolutely dying. The last section, the trail disappeared and I was just running blue marker to blue marker through some shrubs. Made it through though, but my legs were absolutely crushed from this leg. All the twists and turns of the trail made my hips and core quite tired, and they were just sore the rest of the weekend.

Proud of myself for gritting through this one, though obviously the pace was quite slow. Trying to not be too hard on myself based on where my fitness is at though.
