GLR 2017 Leg B-4
"The Blind Sucker Run"
Scenery: 10, Difficulty: 5-6
Distance: 3.2 Miles
This run started off on a dirt road for about 600m before turning back onto the NCT and continuing along Lake Superior. The given map for this was a bit misleading, as it looked like it ran directly along the coast of the lake. Missed the first left into the trail and actually ran straight onto the beach. Knew I goofed when I looked down the beach and saw no other runners. Came back to the road and immediately saw the trail head. Once I was on the trail, this was an awesome run! The trail was a very narrow deer path that was never straight for more than 50m or so. It was pretty difficult to stay on the actualy path, but if you missed a trail marker, you knew immediately and could get back on track. Passed 3 runners on the trail, but it was so twisting that you really couldn't get moving very fast. Tripped over a tree root at one point, but ended up falling into a somersault and rolling directly into stride which was pretty fun. At one point, the trail came out onto the edge of a short cliff that was over looking the lake. Took a brief glance out and it was pretty awesome. I was pretty gassed by the end of this with all the short, steep hills.
This was probably my favorite trail that I ran all weekend. Even with my slight mistake at the beginning, I still pretty much maintained pace with Chris DeSilva (STW), who started 4ish minutes before hand.
