Illinois Club Peaks 800m Heat 2
Woof. 800s are harder than I remember. Definitely underestimated this race. Thought I would be able to go out in ~59 fairly relaxed and have something to give on the last lap. Didn't play out that way though.
Started in the outside alley with Weem and an Iowa guy. Gun went off, and got to the front. At the break, came in right behind the lead group of Splitt, Ketih, Decker. Felt pretty smooth, but when I tried to settle in, I started falling back. At 300m the rest of the field passed me and it felt like I was in danger to fall off into oblivion. Made a surge to regain connection at 350m and felt like I was in a good spot at the bell (59.X). Wanted to make a surge at the 500m mark, but instead started to lock up and go backwards. Tried to rally the last 150 and catch Weem, but just couldn't get the legs moving. Disappointing 800m. Need some more efforts at 800m race pace if I want to run faster.
