Notes

Not my best Cherry Pit but still good. I wanted to get up the 1st four miles in less than 8:15 mpm and I think I managed around 8 mpm. Pouring rain throughout but no real wind. At the start, I eye Dave Walser. This is a no chip race so I couldn't line up way behind him as that would be no advantage. Lined up even but off to the left so he couldn't see me. From the start I took Marsha's advice and decided to run my own race and not shadow him. I became the hunted rather than the hunter.

Up 4 miles, now rolling hills until the crappy miles 6 through 8. Legs were feeling it but I think the day off yesterday helped. Lost some time per mile in 7 & 8. Took 2nd GU (actually Mocha Cliff Shot) around mile 6.5. Snagged one cup of Gatorade and drank my 17 ounce throwaway water bottle.

They were awarding cherry pies in 10 year age groups which is fine for me but not great if you are 69 years old. Came in 3rd right behind Kirk Gordon. Today he was uninjured and passed me around mile 7. Couldn't close. 1st AG guy was somewhere around 1 hr 18 minutes. I broke 80 minutes so just slightly under 8 mpm. Pleased.

Well done, carrying extra weight in your shoes and wet clothing! Tough course.
