Notes
Salisbury Marathon.
First half felt relaxed and natural, although in hindsight I may have been a tad too aggressive and paid for it later. Went through the half in 1:27:48 and held on to 6:40-6:42 pace until mile 15. Next 5 miles were mostly on a straightaway with a headwind, not super strong but enough to slow anyone down. Still 6:45 average at mile 20.
Then my vastus lateralus (both legs) started to not feel so great, but manageable. Around mile 21 or so I tried taking in a third gel and some water, which my stomach tried to reject, but I didn't yack. Started to feel a bit thirsty. Things started to hurt more but I could still hang on to about 6:55 -7:05 pace. There were also some low grade but long-ish uphills at this point but I tend to be a decent hill climber so I shouldn't be bitching about this.
Shit hit the fan very suddenly right at about mile 23. It was my quads. Hamstrings, glutes and calves all felt fine and I didn't feel like I was hitting the wall in terms of running out of glycogen. I think this time around I did a much better job with fueling. My quads were in sheer agony.
Last 2 miles death march. I alternated between walking and then suddenly resuming ~ 7:00 pace for about a minute or so at a time.
