Notes

I felt tired when I woke, snoozed past the alarm for an extra hour, still felt sluggish. Measured my resting HR in bed, and it was about 58 bpm, which seems quite a bit higher than yesterday's 50 bpm. So indications are that I will struggle running my 16 mile Long Run today ...

Sub-8:00 min pace for the middle 12 miles, with a couple of them sub 7:40. I contrast this with yesterday's Out-n-Back, which is supposed to be a higher level Aerobic effort, and it felt tough, but my peak speed was 7:30 pace for less than a mile. I ran a 7:30 for mile 12 today!

The obvious difference is that yesterday was on a Treadmill, and today was outside (first time running outside since Disney 2 weeks ago). I overdressed for the 24 F temps and was sweating like a pig, but the pace felt somewhat relaxed, not strained at all.

One thing I noticed, though. On yesterday's TM O&B run, my breathing was easy at roughly 7 steps per breath. Today, it seemed like I was closer to 5 steps per breath, which would indicate a much higher effort level. Something about being outside convinces me that I'm not working that hard, unless I look at an objective measure, like breathing rate. (It might be good to start wearing the HRM occasionally to see if there are any clues there as well.)

Half Marathon to run in 6 days. Running it as my weekly O&B, but I may push the pace a bit more than the plan calls for.
