Notes
Another little experiment in HR running and man was this mentally grueling. Once again, shooting for a <150 average and was curious what it would take to get there today in warmer weather. To be fair, on the trails I think you lose an easy 30-45s based off the trail markers and pace in open clearings. Even still, we're looking at ~9min pace in hot but not summer hot weather. Other contributing factors were short sleep (<6hrs when I remembered right before bed I had to be up at 4:45a for a 6a call) and morning caffeine, but still... jeez. It was a struggle to stay this slow to say the least. By the last 2 mi I couldn't take it anymore and had to get moving and HR shot up quick.
It's another data point. I don't know what I'll do with it. I don't plan to run 9min+ pace on easy days through summer. Again, I still need a clearer idea of what my max is. I do think I can still benefit from slow easy days, but I don't know if I can commit to quite this slow. Hopefully I'll be doing a lot of morning running anyway so that should help with temps, but that's TBD.
