Notes

Old Village Harbor 5k. I guess it's not a terrible result but I was expecting better! One of those head-scratcher races where I felt good and don't have anything specific to blame, but I just didn't run fast. Ran evenly (even though only looked at watch literally twice), felt mostly focused, thought I was working well, just didn't really have it. NBD, there's always another race.

But anyway, it's a nice course and was a good morning for running. I really wasn't planning on racing this weekend until Chris Bailey mentioned he might be doing this race. Found out yesterday he wasn't but the idea was stuck in my head; the course is pretty fast and the forecast was looking great so was hoping for a sub-17 run. Won it 3 years ago in 16:22 but I think it was about 20s short (though I didn't admit it at the time). This year it seemed right on and there was no problem with the mile markers like in 2014. I knew Michael Banks was entered but that didn't mean much to me other than I wouldn't be winning; felt like we weren't even running the same race. He ended up running a ridiculous 14:17, then 3 min back to me, then 1 min back to 3rd. Yeah it was a little windy and I was pretty alone, but not any more so than Michael so I've got no excuse there! Can't blame yesterday's fall either, haha -- knee has been hurting/stinging a bit but didn't feel it during the race.

I guess the past couple days weren't super for sleep, and maybe I need competition more than I realize. I had some good company in both the SGK5k and the JICR10k so that definitely helped. Still, only 2s better than the last 5k? A little surprising, but I won't read into it too much.
