Got a text from Matthew "former 14:15" DeVillers asking if I wanted to do 7-8 today... Amidst fears of heat and inadequacy, I decided I couldn't turn down the company. It was HOT but luckily he set a slow pace and we talked about not overdoing it in the heat. This is what the non-GPS said, I doubt it was that slow but I don't have any proof and, truth be told, it's not impossible with that heat. The trail is narrow so he led for 4, I led for 4, then he led and started to pick up some and I was feeling embarrassingly close to red-lining, but luckily (?) it seemed like the heat wore him down too for the last mile. Achilles really only uncomfortable on 9, otherwise not TOO noticeable.
