Mullet Haul on John's Island Equestrian Center trails. Slow sloppy course. Good for a 4min W.
Don't have many thoughts on this honestly (though I'm sure I'll manage to write a lot anyway). Not upset with the time since the course ran very slow and I led from the gun, but certainly not excited unless I start to subjectively speculate. Ultimately I came expecting to get a good workout likely without a quick time while taking home a W and that's exactly what happened.
Nice race, though. TINY race, 111 combined finishers between the two races. All on dirt trails save for the last ~0.2 mi which was on a more cinder/gravel like surface. Got to throw on some spikes for once! Lots of puddles, lots of mud, and otherwise all very soft ground. Unsurprisingly flat though, so at least there was that. Race went off and I immediately gapped everyone, up 1min by mile 1. From there it was just about staying focused and maintaining effort for my own benefit. Wasn't paying much attention to splits, watch wasn't getting a great signal and at least one marker seemed off, but what do I know. Was treated like a god when I finished.
All in all satisfied. Raced in a new place, got a good workout in, and took home some running store money. Def highest ratio of amenities offered to race finishers that I've seen haha (free breakfast, live band, free massages/foam rolling, shoe demo, and some raffles in addition to the typical shirts, oranges/bananas, and awards... for 111 people). 50/50 on trying to sneak another road race before the bridge run.
Watch tells me 5:51-5:33-5:53-5:41-5:14 (.96), course markers tell me 5:36-5:34-5:37-5:52-5:30 (heard 4 was a little late), don't really care either way.
