Run:

Fantastic tempo. I kind of played it by ear. I wanted to go 6 min pace or under and see how far I could go because that's my ideal tempo pace. In hind sight, my 5:40 on mile 5 (after warmup) indicated I probably should have tried to maintain 6 min for another mile or two, but I'll still be very happy with 5 at 5:50 average. Very much surprised myself with that. I probably could've done 1 more and gotten my 10k pr. Oh well. I did loops around Hanalei which is super flat, so I think that helped. I should add that the scenery was incredible - Hanalei is a beautiful bay on the ocean completely surrounded by lush mountains. I took a dip in the ocean after. I'm a little worried my body thinks it's tapering right now but I still have 3 months before my race so I'll need to make sure to get back into some harder longer weeks when I get back. Regardless, it feels good to be fast again. 5:50 didn't even feel that fast. That's that feeling I was chasing 109 days ago when I started up this streak. Hopefully I can keep improving.

Vacation:

We didn’t have any plans today so we sort of made it up as we went. Spent pretty much all day in Hanalei. The first place we went was Hanalei Bay beach. This place is like famous or some shit. Not a lot of people there given that which is cool. The views were gorgeous. I did a tempo run around the town then swam in the ocean before meeting back up with claire. I talked to this surfer dude about the waves because they looked super calm and we wanted to surf at some point. He basically laughed at me and said this side of the island is not really surfable in the summer and gave us recommendations of beaches on the south side. We never did that. We then got some big breakfast sammies at a coffee shop and went to a hiking trail that goes up 1200 feet to get a view of Hanalei bay from the mountains. It was a pretty slippery hike but there weren’t many people so it was overall nice. It rained on us at the top which was really the only time we were outside when it was raining on this whole trip. It felt kinda good honestly cuz the uphill hike got me spritsy. We then sat at the beach for a while, reading and swimming. I got some stark tan lines on my legs. I guess burn lines technically. More people were in town at dinner time. We walked around looking for something to eat for a while and there were lots of long lines. We settled on Hawaiian BBQ and we both got shrimp. Let’s just say that meal didn’t make the top 5 for either of us. Pretty much ended the day after that. Missed a good sunset but spoilers we got a good one tomorrow.
