Windsor 5K

Notes

Went over to Windsor to run a 5K. Surprised that no one showed up since it was $50 for first overall and $25 to Masters. It was good to get the morning race jitters. I woke up last night around 2 am actually nervous about the race. I headed over in the morning and realized about half way to the race I forgot my wallet and had nothing in the car to pay with. I had to turn around and fly home get my wallet and head back. I felt a huge rush of adrenaline. I got to the race with only 30 minutes to register and warm-up. It was plenty of time. It really got me in the mindset for the race. I took off and could tell that my legs were a tad flat from earlier in the week. I think in my old age it really takes a bit to recover. Anyhow, some one was on my shoulder for the first half mile then dropped. I hit the opening mile in 5:11. I knew any sub 16 was out the window for me. The second mile dragged on forever with two hairpin turns on the sidewalk trail. Seemed stupid. I wasn't super confident in my conditioning and ran within the boderline comfort zone. i was pushing it but not racing it. So I hit two miles at 10:38. So I decided to get back to racing and pushed the last mile in. I won by about 1 min. I'm happy with the race and time. In the spring I was running in the 15's and doing repeats at 5-5:05 pace this summer I'm doing repeats at 5:20's and running in the 16's. Makes sense. I really enjoyed racing again. I forget how much I miss it. After the race they had a pancake breakfast. I donated/paid my $50 back to the church for breakfast. I wasn't racing for the money today, I was racing to be racing. I feel like today was a big step back for me. Time was ok, race was ok, but it was a solid overall effort. Cobwebs gone, time to train and of course hike Longs tomorrow.
