Notes

Columbus Half. Started up front this year which made the first mile a lot easier. Ran with Joe Stewart the first 5 miles. We had a group of people to run with from about 3-5 miles which was nice. I picked it up as planned at mile 5. Although I felt good at this point, I started feeling bad in miles 6 and 7. Between those miles, there is a decent incline and I started pretty hard and started to get some side stiches. I focused on relaxing all my muscles from my neck to my calves and I made my best effort to control my breathing. After another mile turning into German Village, I started feeling really good. I even flexed for the camera around mile 9-10. My focus wasn't really on my pace, but just continuing to put in the least amount of effort and relaxing everything while focusing on runners ahead of me. At the 11 mile marker I caught Neil, who was having a bad day with side stitches. I thought he was really packing it in, but he was able to regain composure and finished at the last mile strong. Going up high street this year was much easier than last year. This can be attributed to the hilly hard run at Scioto Trails. The finish is slightly downhill, and I felt like I was really moving and thought to myself that I wish I would have started running hard earlier, but the way my legs feel now (tight and tired) I can tell I was giving it everything but just did such a good job relaxing that I was in a good zone. Splits in 6:05, 6:02, 5:52, 6:02, 5:53, 5:45, 5:56, 5:44, 5:41, 5:40, 5:43, 5:46, 5:28 (pace last 1.1).
