Once again, the rain stopped just in time for the race. I arrived at 6:40, needing time to pick up my packet and meet the other LRC members. It is nicer to have the bib number and the chip the night before, but I got it done in adequate time.
Did just a few blocks of warmups and my legs and knees felt good. This time, I checked for starting mats before the start of the race, and they weren't there, so I lined up closer to the front, since this would be gun time only. It was crowded. I took whatever opportunities I could to pass people, and tried to stay in the center except on turns. Running conditions were good, and I felt good. My main concern was that the strength wouldn't last through the 10K, so I didn't push as hard as I might have. The long hill on 84th didn't seem bad, and the later hills on Adams and in Mahoney didn't bother me much. I was pretty glad to turn onto 63rd for the final stretch, though. No sun, but I was drenched in sweat due to the humidity. Felt really good after the race as well.
The speed was a bit disappointing; I felt strong enough that I know I could have done better if I had pushed harder. The lesson: If I want to set a PR, I'm going to have to work for it. On the other hand, this run just felt good.
Met up with team members, cheered the others as they came through. BIG surprise to hear IR Dyeing to Win announced as the winner of the 3K Corporate division. :-)
Gary took some team photos, and I spotted him taking photos on Adams during the race.
