Triple Loop

Notes

Time for a long run. Shorts and green LS tech shirt from Leprechaun Chase.

Loop 1, J Street, 6.5 miles. Muggy-sticky. I didn't feel particularly strong, but reasonably good. PTT felt, well, average. Seemed like it should be better than this after two days off. Muscles and other joints okay.

Loop 1 time: 59:55. Pace: 9:14. Acceptable.

Break at home: 2:23. Cranberry juice and potty.

Loop 2, Cooper with south shore loop, 7.3 miles. Cooler now, because a breeze came up. Early in this loop I found myself falling into the 2-2 breathing pattern. I fought it for a short time, then went with it. Energy seemed to be lacking a bit. There's a whole lot of juniper pollen that may be affecting me. Anyway, did the run and felt that on such a nice day I should take the south shore. Lots of people out, of course. Most interesting was the woman on inline skates being pulled by three smallish dogs. She actually was handling them pretty well.

Loop 2 time: 1:10:39. Pace: 9:39. Slower.

Break at home: 1:55. CJ & P, as before.

Loop 3, Winding Way, 3.63 miles. I was really tired by this time, and I'm sure it showed. Just kept going on grit. It didn't really seem to take a long time. I think my mind was kind of tuned out, and I just went on autopilot. I knew I was tired; I ran.

Loop 3 time: 37:24. Pace: 10:19. Slowest.

Post-run, PTT definitely complaining. Taking aspirin, but limping. I'm also quite dehydrated, something I'm not going to permit in the marathon, at least not to this degree.

I do think my 1800 miles in 2011 has done good things for my endurance. Legs didn't balk at all. Late in loop 2 I thought my liver might already be reminiscing about the marathon distance, but it didn't amount to anything. No death march in mile 17. Still, nine more would have resulted in a death march. Relying on some taper and better hydration to make it work May 6. If I do it.
