***After seemingly throwing my chance at varsity away (though likely I wasn't in as good a shape as I imagined), I was mad. Luckily, I had a chance to use that energy towards one more race/TT to prove my fitness. I made it clear to others (via email maybe?) that I would be the pacer and would be channeling every runner's inner Prefontaine by going "suicide pace". By race time, I had 2 freshmen intrigued enough to follow me.

The pace was 5min per mile or bust. I took the lead and set a consistent pace. I may not have been exactly on, but it was close. Still, 2miles in and I was getting tired. Then, to my surprise, Pollux was not only still with me, but he took the lead. I hung on to him for 3 laps, sometimes giving him a few meters, sometimes getting right on him. I didn't know what my time was or how big of PR this would be with 1 lap to go. All I knew is that I had enough left for a kick.

I caught up and passed Pollux by 300m to go and forged my way around the final curve exhilarated to accomplish my goals for myself and my teammates. Little did I know that Pollux was a trackstar, and he was known for a vicious 200m kick. He passed me on the homestretch and even if I had anything left, I was not ready to use it. Nevertheless, a 35sec PR doing a lot of the work and perhaps ushering in a new era of Luther runners not seeing <16 as impressive (I'm I may be so bold in my own influence).

This may have been 1 of or my first night race and would continue a pattern of my best races being at night. I also wore the memorable black shorts, black bandana, and black arm sleeves, no jersey.
