Hixon Forest

Notes

Saturday morning long run. The goal was to check out the biggest climb on the 50k course. I took the long but singletrack way to HIxon, made a brief trip over a fairway to get to a bathroom, then found my way uphill (after a few mistakes). Turns out the mistakes weren't over as I now find out that I didn't take the exact right way to the top. But if anything, I think took a shorter route so the actual route shouldn't be steeper right? Anyway, it wasn't that bad (I did take it quite slow though as I wasn't feeling that strong today).

Next up was the main mountain bike area. I got slightly acquainted with the trails but they are somewhat convoluted. Then north to the quarry loop that had a variety of terrains. Back to upper Hixon instead of back home as Naomi et al. were doing a short hike and picking me up.

After only seeing a few slow splits and a lot of slow instantaneous paces, I was ready to hype myself up and tell myself a 9min average today doesn't matter for race day. Instead, I averaged 8:15 while feeling slow. So now I feel... too confident?
