Notes

On Friday, I started looking for a race (non-5k, maybe non road) for a few reasons.

1) No other plans this weekend, things might be getting pretty boring.

2) As made apparent by by mileage this week, I've been quite lazy and a race would at least guarentee myself some miles.

3) I needed some sun, and it was a great day out to enjoy - not to watch tv and play video games indoors.

I found an adventure race near Cedar Rapids that looked cool. Only $15 without a t-shirt, too. I stood around way too much before the race (1/2 my fault, 1/2 starters talking about the race). So, legs felt really heavy right away as we jumped over box and round hay bales. I stuck with the leaders since I was completely lost until I realized we were slowing down and probably nearing 8 min pace. Another guy took the lead and I followed him as we chatted through the mud piles. On the first uphill I accidently got a lead and then started working. Next couple miles were basically: fly down downhills, push uphills, have some fun through the obstacles, and try not to think whether I'm lost or not. Got scraped up and had a lot of fun, especially when there were volunteers or spectators, but it would have been much better with some pals. I finished strong and 3 minutes ahead of 2nd place. Still didn't get many miles or as much sun as desired, but it was fun and a good way to spend a Saturday.
