Notes
I started several rows back but it wasn't too hard to move up (lots of slower runners). Hit the mile just over 5:20. It was super windy so I tried to draft a lot. After 2 miles, the wind was at our backs at the packs split up, I was feeling decent but uneasy until the 180 degree turn when I picked up the pace to catch a group for another drafting ride. The next mile was a back-and-forth of feeling good/bad while many others were either starting to move up or fall apart.
4 miles in ~22:15 (unsure of accuracy), basically held my position the whole backstretch as I heard many cheers for the Wartburg guy behind me. I knew I had some strength in reserves but had trouble pushing myself with some moderate side-aches and shaky legs. The homestretch was into the wind and most were slowing down so I passed a good amount of people with a decent kick.
Deja vu today with Conference senior year, same course, similar weather, similar time and race progression for me. Bad news is I could feel the bottom of my right foot hurting most of the race, spikes don't seem to agree with me.
