Notes
The past week has been full of good running and I hoped that would continue for another workout. I had concerns after some deep dish pizza left me congested last night but I still felt good this morning.
Well maybe not right away as I started very slow on the warmup and then wished I had turned around earlier to go to the bathroom. I made it to a gas station and the rest of my 4 mile warmup felt good as I finally gradually picked up the pace ending with a 6min 4th mile.
Onto the track and into my flats.
400m - 82sec
600m - 2:03
800m - 2:43
1000m - 3:21
800m - 2:41
600m - 1:56
400m - 76sec
A classic pyramid workout. I kept to 5:2X pace while going up in distance then planned on picking up the pace after that (though that didn't happen for the 2nd 800).
The main obstacle was the wind. I would have liked a consistent pace but a consistent effort made more sense. Though in reality it was a mix of both (harder effort and slower pace while going into the wind).
To finish, I put on spikes for the 1st time in ages and did 3 hill sprints followed by 3 150m sprints.
A mile and a half cool down and I'm calling it a successful track workout. Maybe not the highest quality or quantity of track work but much better than last time and I'm optimistic that I've turned a corner in fitness this past week.
