--- After the Steelers loss. Ran three HCHS laps 1:08 quicker than last time eight days ago and then added a short extra part. Felt pretty good for once. Was red-lining it late, but no dry-heaves came. ---
Mile splits: 8:41, 8:48 (17:29) and 2:32 (20:01) last 0.30 miles (8:27 pace)
Adjusted splits: 8:36, 8:51 and 8:26 pace last 0.29 miles
Had a decent, albeit short one today. Had a long stretch towards the end of the Steelers playoff loss and felt much better after. Was surprisingly beat up from playing 168 rounds of cornhole on Sunday, including 103 rounds of singles. That’s a lot of bending down and picking up the bags. Pretty much everything was sore but the stretch helped. Decided late in the day and right before the run that I was going to Monday’s cornhole event. Was back and forth on what I was going to run but eventually settled on three laps around the Helix Charter High School, so roughly 2.13 miles and then some kind of add-on after (goal was 2.41).
Felt good during the run for once, especially the first lap. Each lap got tougher. Had a fear of dry-heaving but it didn’t come. Knew I was pretty quick early on in the first lap when I was roughly at 50 seconds through 0.10 miles. Ended up going 6:09 (8:41 pace), 6:18 (8:46 pace) and 6:18 (8:46 pace) for the three laps, hitting the mile in 8:41 and the second in 17:29 following an 8:48. Had a fear of dry-heaving late, but somehow kept it back. Saw Dave Noll in his white truck right after the 2-mile mark and could hear him say something like “Hey, Jamie!” I smiled and waved and it gave me a little energy to finish. Was going back and forth about what to add during the three loops, everything from no add-on to the 0.41 miles like I planned. But in the back of my mind every minute mattered (I ended up getting to cornhole with seven minutes to spare). Ran the three laps (2.15 miles today) some 1:08 quicker than the last time eight days ago (8:44 pace today, 9:21 pace on Jan. 7). It was still light out and the door/gate was wide open around the 0.50-mile mark, making it a bit easier today.
Ended up just running to the home plate and back, so 0.15 miles in 1:15 (8:22 pace).
Altogether it was 2.30 miles in 20:01 (8:43 pace), 0.11 miles less than I planned. When it was all said and done, that was just like an extra minute. I should have found a way to do it. Looking forward to a day off tomorrow and finally running a 3-mile run on Wednesday.
