--- Ran a 2-second PR on my sixth time running this loop and 1:28 faster than two weeks ago, thanks in part to watching yesterday’s U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. Was still pumped up. After looking at my 0.25-mile time I only looked at the Garmin on the mile splits the rest of the way. Nice run for me right now. ---

Mile splits: 8:52, 8:40 (17:32) and 7:54 (25:26)

Adjusted splits: 8:22, 8:38 and 8:12 pace last 0.99 miles

Slept in super late and then relaxed all day, finishing my book. Once I decided to run I only had one cup of water in me. Had a decent stretch. Was planning on running the 3.02-mile Walkie Talkie loop. Only goal was to run faster than last time two weeks prior on Jan. 21 when I ran 3.00 miles in 26:44 (8:55 pace), remembering miles of 9:07, 9:06 and 8:31. Was looking forward to it after watching the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials yesterday.

Legs felt great when I started. Got to six seconds before my Garmin moved to 0.01, which I knew was off, but I decided not to start over. Made sure it got to 0.02 and then really didn’t pay attention to it the rest of the way. Did look down at the 0.25-mile mark and saw 2:01 or 2:02. For the rest of the way I only looked at the mile split when it vibrated and lit up. The first mile plus a little more were mostly uphill with a few flat spots. Just wanted to get to the top. Passed the 0.50-mile split without looking at my Garmin or even really thinking about it. Was feeling it a bit toward the end of University Ave., taking the right on La Mesa Blvd. The hill there was tough but not as tough as usual. Got to the top for a first-mile split of 8:52 (8:22 adjusted). Wow. Way faster than the last time (9:07).

Took the left on Acacia Blvd. and cruised through there. Went out to the road to not pass a lady in her wheelchair on the sidewalk and then almost tripped over something in the road. Got back on track, taking the left on Allison Ave. I remember really feeling it there last time but tonight was great. Got past the fire station and knew I was right around the 1.50-mile mark, or halfway through the loop. Took the right on the sidewalk. Got through Acacia again, taking the right on La Mesa Blvd. It seemed to take forever to get to the 2-mile split and finally got there in 17:32 following an 8:40 (8:38 adjusted). Once again much faster than last time on this loop (9:06).

Figured if I could run an 8-minute mile it would be about 25:32 for three miles, just over 8:30 pace. But even an 8:10 would be 25:42 (8:34 pace). Not sure how fast I could go on that last mile, even with it being downhill. Got down the steep hill on La Mesa Blvd., taking the left on University. Was just rolling along without looking at my Garmin. Before I knew it I was at Parks Ave., so just 0.30 miles or so left. Jeez. That 0.45 from the top of the hill just flew on by. Picked it up a little bit with about 0.25 miles left but nothing crazy. Kept waiting for the 3-mile split to come late but it never did as I finished exactly at 3.00 miles (Strava was 2.99). Ran the last mile in 7:54 (8:12 adjusted).

Ended up running a 2-second PR on this loop and a whopping 1:28 faster than two weeks ago. It was also my fastest run of the year. Second straight time on this loop that was 3.00 miles even (the first four were either 3.01 or 3.02 miles).
