--- First run since Aug. 16 (138 days) mainly because of injuries (ribs and then foot), but no real excuse the last month. Happy to get out there and struggle through loops of 5:59, 6:19 and 6:29 with only three dry-heaves (0.73, 1.18 and 1.52). Still slow and fat. ---

Mile splits: 9:11 and 9:36 (18:47) last 0.98 miles (9:48 pace)

Finally got out to run for the first time since Aug. 16, so 138 days. Most of the time off was because of freak injuries (rib while golfing and a foot while stepping weirdly on the steps). Both lasted about six weeks and happened back-to-back. So I started feeling good again at the end of November, but still ended up waiting until Jan. 1 to run with the last month off more of just me being lazy. Was nervous just because of the long layoff and always fearing the dry-heaves. Was running up against the clock a little bit with something I had to be at 1 p.m. Had a quick cup of water before running and did not stretch. Was planning on just three laps around the Olive loop for just under two miles.

Started off and told myself to take it easy, but as always I was out a little quick, roughly at about 8:15-8:20 pace through 0.1 miles. Halfway on Olive Avenue I was already thinking about cutting it to two loops instead of three. I got up the little hill expecting a dry-heave but it did not come. Hit the first lap in 5:59 (9:04 pace) which was much quicker than I thought.

Kept awaiting a dry-heave and that wish came through shortly early in the second loop at 0.73 miles. It was just two dry-heaves and not my normal three. Took the left on Normal and left on Olive, hitting the first mile in 9:11. Went slow up the hill followed by another dry-heave at 1.18 miles. Just two again and not the normal three in succession. Jogged down the hill and thought about stopping after two laps. Second lap was much slower in 6:19 (9:35 pace). Just kind of laughed at being 20 seconds slower.

Debated about at least stopping once on the third loop after wanting to stop each of the laps earlier but had to get to Normal because it was a segment. Got to Normal, taking the left and promptly dry-heaving (just one) at 1.52 miles. Just kept telling myself less than a half mile left, I can do this. Was super slow up the hill on Olive but surprisingly no dry-heave. Got to the bottom and picked it up slightly on University all the way home. Still ran my last lap in 6:29 (9:50 pace), some 10 seconds slower than the last lap.

Ended up running the three loops in 5:59, 6:19 and 6:29, for a total of 1.98 miles in 18:47 (9:30 pace). Did a slow walk to the next driveway and back but was happy to get out and run. Hoping to actually have a good year for once after back-to-back disappointing years.
