--- Fastest run of the year for me (actual (8:16 pace) and adjusted (8:12)) and my third longest. Legs felt great. Was breathing pretty hard but I’m sick and congested. Starting to really make some progress. Need to get through this weekend and my work load will lighten up somewhat. ---

Wanted to hydrate more the night before and stretch but I fell asleep pretty quickly after getting back from cornhole. Had been sick for the past few days and today was the worse I felt. Just a lot of sneezing and mucus but still a think. Had a decent stretch and then walked to the starting point on the corner of Lowell and University.

Legs felt great when I started. Had to back off after quick first 0.10 miles since the first 1.10 miles of this 3.73-mile loop are uphill. Wasn’t looking at my splits too much. Was checking occasionally my pace but that’s really it. Passed Parks Ave. and saw a guy jogging ahead of me. Nice. That’s rare to see someone running let alone ahead of me on the same sidewalk. But pretty soon he was walking. Passed him shortly after. Felt fine up this hill, taking a left on La Mesa Blvd. This was the steeper part but was still doing OK. Hit the first mile in 8:44 (8:16 adjusted). Knew that faster than the last time I ran this on Jan. 25, but not sure by how much (I ran 8:57 then).

Got to the top and was happy the hardest part was over. Took the left on El Cajon Blvd. Started feeling good again near Maple Ave. Did awesome on this stretch on El Cajon. Felt good and almost every time I looked at my Garmin I was running 8:05 pace. Not completely flat here, but some little rolling hills. Hit the 2-mile mark in 16:47 following an 8:03 (8:13 adjusted). Damn. Was worried that was too quick.

Took the Left on 70th St. Got by the early uneven sidewalks. Wasn’t feeling the best here. Was trying to still keep pace but was dropping into the 8:30s at times, or low 8s. Passed a woman running the other way at about 2.40 miles. I ran out on the road and gave her a nod but got nothing in return. Knew the last part down the hill I’d make up some ground but was feeling it really that whole stretch on El Cajon. Finally got to the downhill and opened up my stride a little bit. Cruised down that hitting the 3-mile mark in 24:40 with a 7:53 (8:05 adjusted). Damn it. Roughly 8:14 pace through three miles? Knew that my fastest run of the year was in play but the last 0.60 miles of this loop or so are a gradual uphill.

Kept sub-8 pace until about 3.20 miles. Started to slip a little bit. Had to stop at the light on Massachusetts Ave. at 3.31 miles (for a total of 10 seconds). Started again and got up the little uphill until the last 0.10 miles were flatter. Finished the final 0.72 of the loop in 6:01 (8:22 pace). Ran the 3.72-mile loop in 30:31 today (8:15 pace), 1:31 faster than 22 days ago.

Then jogged from the ending over to the starting point near the tennis courts, then finished with a small add-on. Ran out to home plate and back, running much faster on the way back. Ran the 0.14 miles in 1:05 (7:46 pace).

Altogether it was 3.89 miles in 32:10 (8:16 pace). It was my fastest run of the year (actual and adjusted (8:12)) and my third longest. Legs felt great throughout with a planned day off yesterday. Had a lot of snot but no dry-heaves. Starting to really make some progress. Need to get through this weekend and my work load will lighten up somewhat.
