--- Second-fastest run of the year for me (8:34.7) with no dry-heaves, compared to eight days ago when I ran 2.49 miles at 8:32.5 pace with seven dry-heaves (really 19) and two real heaves. I have no concept of pace on these dark runs. Happy with this after another 13-hour work day. Just want to get through the weekend… ---

Adjusted splits: 8:27, 8:32 and 8:29 pace last 0.70 miles

Another early and long work day (13 hours) that had me worrying if I was going to be able to run. Thought about not after falling asleep laying next to Clara, but got up and quickly got ready before any more second thoughts took over. Can’t believe I actually got out and run considering how late it was, another early/long work day, no dinner and a stiff neck, but I did it. Garmin synced quick with a Chinese balloon and I headed to the starting point.

Just as I started running I saw a woman running on the other side of the road. She was moving pretty good. She kept up with me for about 0.12 miles before I broke her. I think this started me going out hard to start. Plus it was super dark and for some reason I seem to always go faster the darker it is. Knew I’d just be going off feel. Was at 2:08 at 0.25 miles. The normal Normal stretch wasn’t as bad as usual today and I got by fairly quickly. Took a right on Parks, hitting 0.50 miles in 4:23. Seemed a bit quick but too late to slow down then. Did OK up LMAAC hill, breathing real hard at the top. Took the left on Dale and it took me until about Normal to recover. Opened it up a little on the downhill stretch, running some in the road because I was afraid of falling on uneven sidewalks in the dark. Hit the mile in 8:41 and that was much faster than I anticipated (8:27 adjusted). Shit I thought. A dry-heave was definitely coming. Got out to University, looking down once or twice at my Garmin to see 8:15-to-8:20 pace. Ran the final 0.47 miles of the first loop in 3:51 (8:13 pace). Ended up running the 1.47-mile Pedofile Adjace in 12:32 (8:32 pace), 44 seconds faster than last time I ran it 17 days prior.

Felt a little sluggish right after the first loop was done. Didn’t feel good on Lowell and up that little hill to get to Junior High Dr. Still felt flat and sluggish there as I hit the 2-mile mark in 17:21 following an 8:40 (8:32 adjusted). Damn. Still 8:40 pace through two miles with no dry-heaves yet. Started to feel good as I started the little downhill and up past Dale Elementary. That stretch on Parks from Normal to University went by quickly for some reason. Got down to University, gradually picking up the pace organically. The first mile of the second loop was 8:43. Picked it up even more right after that to basically “almost dry-heave pace.” Opened it up a little more and thought a dry-heave was coming but somehow it never happened. Ran the final 0.25 miles in 2:00. Ended up running the 1.25-mile WTSL in 10:42 (8:34 pace).

Altogether it was 2.71 miles in 23:15 (8:35 pace) (8:29 adjusted). It was my second-fastest run of the year (8:34.7) and didn’t dry-heave, compared to eight days ago when I ran 2.49 miles at 8:32.5 pace with seven dry-heaves (really 19) and two real heaves. I just have no concept of pace on these dark runs. Happy with this after another long work day. Really the last three days have been tough and I’ve still managed to run. Walked to the next driveway and back to recover a little bit. Looking forward to a day off as part of my eight-day cycle. The 10-day cycle is coming soon.
