--- A little harder, faster and longer than I wanted, but I’m much fatter than I want. So I guess it evens out. ---

Stayed up later than I wanted to last night and drank more beer than I wanted to, so I got up later as well for the run. Knew it was going to be a little hot because of that but figured it wouldn’t be an issue because I was just planning on an 2.25 easy miles on grass and/or dirt. My left hip was killing me with a big cramp somehow from sleeping on it wrong. Did a quick stretch which helped my hip a little bit. Was going to run either seven laps around the Helix High School baseball stadium (1.75 miles + out-and-back for about 2.25) or three laps around the Helix Fields (2.25 miles) without the out-and-back part. Got my Garmin synched up with China and walked over to the starting point to figure out my plan. I saw that they had the gates down I think for the first time that I’ve seen it, which blocks access to the fields, and another one that blocked access to the outfield of the modified softball fields. However, I just walked further down and got through that way. There was a baseball game going on so I ditched my original plan and planed on Modified Fields x 5 for about 2.00 miles and then a little more to make 2.25.

First few steps I could feel that my legs were a little heavy and through the first lap it felt like I should have stretched my calves better. Just wanted to go easy. Not quite recovery but easy. Wasn’t worrying about pace. It was hot out although I’ve become a wimp running in San Diego. Ran five laps, breathing a bit harder each one. Went 3:41, 3:45, 3:43, 3:45 and 3:44. Never really felt good. Felt like I was going slower at times. Then added on a little more, running out to a shed near the softball field and ended up going a littler longer than my planned 2.25.

Altogether it was 2.29 miles in 21:38 (9:27 pace). Probably a little harder, faster and longer than I wanted, but I am a fat mess and am much fatter than I want to be. I guess it evens out.
