I started off today from NCC by myself not really sure what I wanted to do, other than to get 90 minutes. I headed out East and started thinking about my running lately and decided I need to inject some variety into my training. I've kinda been getting into a rut of doing the same runs at the same pace over and over and just getting complacent. With that in mind, I headed toward 4 Lakes for some grass hills. That hill is every bit as steep and punishing as I remember it from the last time I was there in November. I got to the top the fourth time gasping for air and thinking about that being enough for the first time back. As I started heading heading down I said to myself "fuck that, don't be a pussy!" As I did two more, I kept repeating to myself "don't be a pussy, don't be a pussy!" It was only 6 hills, but it felt a lot more satisfying than if I were to have stopped at 4. I ran up tempo back to school but didn't time the miles. I'll save that for another day. I got back in 76 minutes and added on to get over 90. I'm just guessing 14 miles based on an overall 6:32 pace. I may be shorting myself a bit.

What's frustrating about doing those hills and the race on Sunday is that it tells me I'm not in as good of shape as I would like to be for having run as many miles as I have this year. I need to do more up tempo work, mile repeats and hills. My anaerobic threshold sucks. It always has.
