Conference Race!!! I've always had a fun time at the conference race every year, and this year was no different. We got out HOT and then settled in fairly quickly once we got away from the rest of the competition. It was so awesome to have Aubs in our pack today! Caroline McMartin from central caught up to us and stuck with us for a bit which made me nervy, because I knew I would get into my head about my sad kick if it came down to the final stretch. We ended up taking a wrong turn in the first half of our race, which stretched out our pack a little (because we all responded to that differently), but honestly I think it was a good thing because that's when we lost McMartin and I no longer had to worry about kicking hard to try and beat her if she was still with us. Regardless, I had to do some work to catch back up to Aubs and Riley, who sorta took off after making the wrong turn, but I eventually got myself back in the mix. I had some confidence going into the race because even though I struggle on hill workouts, I usually do pretty well on hillier courses for some reason. So, I ended up having a LOT of fun with this race and I honestly loved how turny and uneven everything was because THAT is real cross country running to me! It was fun to finish the race with Riley, a lot of people told me it looks like I could've finished way harder because I felt so good, but I knew this wasn't the race to do that and it would just be better to coast it in. My goal was to get 5th because I got 5th place both last year and freshman year, but I figured I'd get 6th since our whole pack would be finishing together and my kick is the worst, but then I ended up getting 4th, so I guess I still didn't get my goal but in a good way haha? Anyway this is really long and pointless but basically I just had a good time during the race and I wish we ran more courses like this and I'm really looking forward to regionals and nationals!
