Drake Road 10k, 33:16 and 13th place
Pretty happy with this. Earlier this week I'd said that I thought 32-flat would be a decent goal, but I did not really set myself up for success going into this. The mono I am coming back from was obviously not going to help, and we went to a wedding on Saturday evening and drank too much + stayed up too late. Had a good time, but woke up Sunday morning feeling quite poor. Debated not even racing, but decided I'd go to rep the Runablaze squad and just run a pace that felt hard but not put in a race effort
Pretty much did that perfectly. The first half was mostly into the wind and 5:20-5:25 was a hard but comfortable pace. 2nd half effort was about the same but managed to pick it up due to the tailwind. Effort was probably slightly higher than tempo, my hangover pretty much went away once I started running but I still felt far from great. If I was in PR shape I definitely would have behaved better last night, but no regrets
Not sure when I'll race again now. Maybe not until Bix at the end of July. Hopefully can gain some good fitness between now and then
