Last Chance meet at Wartburg today, overall a bit different than I originally planned but it was good to get another race in. I have a strong feeling that Chapman purposely moved me out of the fast heat and into the slow heat to help pace his athletes...total Chapman move, especially with how much he was asking me to pace earlier. Kinda bummed I didn’t get to be in the fast heat but it was what it was. Pacer was supposed to take us through in 9:15 in 3k which was my plan and then I was hoping to take off. When the race started we got out perfect and I immediately settled into second place. Went through the mile in 4:55/4:56 and sadly it didn’t feel as effortless as it did at Chicago lol. Knew I was in for a bit of a bumpier ride but just did my best to relax when I could. The pacer slowed down just a tad and we went through 3k in 9:17. Afterwards I took over and then I was pacing this Wartburg guy for the next few laps before he took over. I passed him and then another lap later he passed me. Ended up being neck and neck at the bell lap and then closed in a 33 to win which was cool since I rarely ever win races or heats anymore haha. A lot of the Wartburg guys PR’d which is great but still wish I could have been in that fast heat because I think I would have ran a bit faster. Still a good effort and happy I decided to run. Busy week with finals and travel but loved the atmosphere today!
