Well that sucked. Hobbled by searing quad pain in the Newton hills. I could tell before that that something was not right, my quads felt painful and tight from before halfway but I was still basically on track through about 30k then things went downhill fast and had to stop several times and do a painful shuffle walk thing. Quads just totally locked up. The downhills were utter agony. I could jog the uphills but had to do a gingerly walk on some of the downhills.

Still not sure how things went so wrong. It was kind of warm but not that bad. A lot of people had issues. It was weird.

5k: 20:12

10k: 40:30

half: 1:24:37

30k: 2:01:22

Then the wheels came off ...

Great day otherwise. It was bigger than my race.

I checked up on you online and saw you were running well and then someone dropped a piano on you. Marathons are stupid, as I've read somewhere. It's funny how they can still humble a man at any time, no matter how well prepared you are. I certainly have walked a mile or two in your shoes and I'm sorry the race didn't go the right way for you. After recovery, you are still going to be in great shape. Put up some ostentatious 5k times this summer & keep some of the young bucks humble.

Thanks, Joe. Yeah I am somewhat comforted by the fact that A LOT of people seemed to have a really tough day, many way worse than me. But a few didn't. Toying with the idea of chasing good money with bad (Vermont City Marathon). A few friends and my sister and brother in law are all going so could be a fun weekend anyhow ... alas.
